Dorothy Theresa (Ardeel) Kalsow

Dorothy Theresa Kalsow, 86, of Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle, Indiana passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015.  Dorothy was born November 3, 1928 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Philemon and Bertha (Van Haver) Ardeel.  Dorothy was a Homemaker and later worked at the Ruth Sabin Home in LaPorte, Indiana from 1979 until her retirement in 2003.  Dorothy was also a volunteer at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Thrift Shop.

On October 22, 1949, Dorothy married Donald W. Kalsow, in LaPorte, Indiana who preceded her in death on July 16, 2013.  Dorothy is survived by three daughters;   Janis (John) Sauter of South Bend, Indiana, Judy (Keith) Johnson of LaPorte, Indiana, Jennifer (Ross) Olling of LaPorte, Indiana;  three sons;  Larry (Diane) Kalsow, of Newport, Rhode Island, Dennis (Ella) Kalsow of LaPorte, Indiana, and Steve Kalsow  of LaPorte, Indiana. Dorothy was also blessed with fourteen grandchildren, Rachel Enright, Natalie Kiff, Lindsay Wathen, Shanon, Jason, and Tony Barnhart, Ryan, Stephanie, Sean, Joshua, Lucas and Karli Kalsow, Ashley and Austin Olling; and eighteen great grandchildren, Dakin, Willow, Julia, Emma, Colin, Kenna, Gavin, Landon, Wesley, Cora, Lyla, Vivian, Jaiden, Gabby, Dylan, Cohen, Alaina, and Brenden.

Also surviving are three sisters, Martha Lewis of Lakeland, Florida, Jean (Charles) Herrold of LaPorte, Indiana, Sylvia (James) Reed of Clifton, Tennessee; a brother, Eugene (Carol) Ardeel of Lizton, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her, parents, granddaughter, Kali Kalsow, a brother, George Ardeel, and a sister, Julia Wozniak.

Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a wonderful cook, and enjoyed decorating for the holidays. 

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, Essling Funeral Home, Frank L. Keszei-Funeral Director, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March, 20, 2015, Essling Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour prior to services.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
