Dorothy J. (Grunst) Barabas

Dorothy J. Barabas, 90, of LaPorte, Indiana passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.  Dorothy was born on June 4, 1925 in LaPorte to Paul and Anna (Cygan) Grunst.   She was a registered nurse having been employed at Pine Lake Hospital, La Porte Hospital, Countryside Nursing Home both in Knox and La Porte and most recently worked at Howmet where she retired.

On June 24, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois Dorothy married Walter E. Barabas who preceded her in death on December 5, 1973.  Surviving are her children, Susan Williams of Roswell, Georgia; Timothy Barabas of LaPorte, Indiana, William Barabas of LaPorte, Indiana; grandchildren, Doug Conlisk, Jessica Mathis, Holly Barabas, and Katie King; great grandchildren, Kendahl, Jared, Peter, and Mikey; and a niece, Judy Chorostecki.  Her parents and husband preceded her in death, along with her beloved dog, Buddy.

Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Sodality, and former member of the Golden Agers.  

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015, Essling Funeral Home-Frank L. Keszei Funeral Director, 1117 Indiana Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, Essling Funeral Home where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or the Small Animal Shelter of LaPorte.
